Julian joined the firm in October 2016, becoming a partner in 2019. His passion and experience relate to a wide range of historic domestic, commercial and ecclesiastical buildings, with schemes often having a public use or being reliant on third party funding. Wider experience includes projects for a local hospice and a homeless charity. Julian is conservation accredited and the Inspecting Architect to over 30 churches.

Julian is particularly interested in the creative re-use of spaces and responding to the challenges that existing buildings present. He particularly enjoys interrogating the history and condition of buildings, as well as the design and construction stages. His work has been shortlisted for, and won, a number of awards.

Laurence has worked with Jane since 2006, gaining extensive experience on a wide selection of projects that include minor and major alteration works together with new build schemes. He has worked closely with private clients in the design and conversion of a number of barns to new residential properties, as well as on small to medium sized extensions. He has also worked alongside Historic England to carry out urgent conservation repairs to museum buildings and assisted with ecclesiastical projects including a new build church annexe, re-ordering projects and general maintenance and repairs. He recently assisted with the large conservation roof repairs at West Dean College and is currently involved with a series of residential projects in Sussex.

Laurence’s style of architecture, sensitively complementing the historic fabric with contemporary design, has won him various awards. He prides himself on his excellent working relationships with his clients on all phases of design and construction.

Trevor joined the Practice in 2014 and has since developed a wide experience of projects relating to historic buildings of all scales and complexities. He recently completed conservation work to a listed post-war private house in the New Forest, built to the designs of Sir James Dunbar-Nasmith in 1964 to 1965. Much of the work involved careful joinery design and detailing.

His experience extends to a variety of church projects including reordering schemes and Heritage Lottery funded projects for repairing church fabric. Recently his work to St Mary’s Church, Thakeham was highly commended by the Sussex Heritage Trust.

Trevor has a keen interest in traditional building techniques and materials, and enjoys working with historic fabric, unravelling the layers of historic assembly. His methodical approach to drawing and detailing, together with his excellent 3D computer skills, are valued widely by the team.

Graeme joined the Practice in October 2018. His previous experience included a wide range of residential and commercial projects but he enjoys focusing his technical understanding working on historic buildings. He has recently completed a complex archaeological and engineering conservation project funded largely by Historic England. This involved much financial administration and written justification, in addition to technical expertise. His report writing is clear and concise and exemplary within the Practice.

The majority of our projects are both technically and logistically challenging. Graeme works closely with the Practice architects throughout each work stage, maintaining an emphasis on a high standard of presentation, drawing and detailing. In addition to domestic schemes, he now works on a number of residential projects as well as conservation and repair projects in sensitive locations.
